What I’ve Been Listening to This Fall Season

What I’ve Been Listening to This Fall Season

Music has been and always will be one of my favorite things in the entire world. Take me to a concert, or let’s just jam out in the car and I’m a happy camper. It sets the mood and tone for everything! Need to get pumped for a workout? There’s music for that. Feeling down? There’s music for that. It fits into every occasion, every feeling. Music is something that’s always there for me, no matter the situation. Because I’m constantly surrounding myself with music, I thought I’d share what I’ve been listening to recently!

Spotify Playlists

Spotify is probably my most used application ever. Music isn’t just something that is background noise to me, it’s something I like to pay attention to that sets the mood for whatever I’m doing. Recently, I’ve gotten into creating playlists, and I’ve created a couple on Spotify that I’ve been listening to a lot, so if you want to check them out, search for Maddie Vinton on Spotify 🙂 . Here’s a couple of my playlists that I made this fall:

//Fall//

Back in October, I decided to go through my entire Spotify library and create a “fall” playlist. Once I was done, I had over 130 songs. Yup, that’s right. That’s 9 hours of music that reminded me of just the fall season right there. There’s a wide variety on this playlist, including songs from the well known Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons, The 1975, and Florence + the Machine. However, there are lots of songs from lesser known artists like Yoke Lore, The Oh Hellos, and Lord Huron. My goal in creating this playlist was to have a chill vibe with songs that aren’t too in your face, but something you could play when writing or doing homework.

//2019 Shazam Part B//

If I didn’t have the Shazam app, I’d still be trying to memorize lyrics and typing them into YouTube to try and figure out the song that I just heard a little snippet of. Shazam has saved me so much time and I use it constantly, from a song I heard on TV or a movie, to just roaming around a bookstore and shopping. You never know when a good song is going to come! I can’t tell you how many amazing songs I have discovered thanks to this app. Every month or so I try to catch up and listen to all the songs I Shazamed (is that a word!?), but lately I’ve been slacking and letting a long time pass. Back in May, when I did my catch up, I added over 50 songs on Spotify that I put in another playlist (2019 Shazam Part A, if you were wondering). It was crazy. So, it was around that time again to catch up, and guess what? I added another 50 songs on my Spotify account. So yea, I’ve added over 100 new songs to Spotify this year from Shazam alone, which is insane. I came up with the idea to create separate playlists from both times, and ever since I did that I’ve been listening to them constantly, Part B in particular. There’s just something about finding new music that makes you think that you can conquer the world!!!

Albums

Playlists on Spotify are something that I like listening to when I’m at home writing, getting ready, or working out, but when I’m out and about driving around, I love listening to complete albums. I’m weird and still buy CD’s because I love them and it reminds me of my childhood! But anyways, I love switching up the albums I’m listening to on drives. I used to love buying a new album right before I went back to college or coming home from college because I could listen to it from start to finish without any interruptions. There’s certain albums that just remind me of that 3-hour drive. My favorite drives are when the leaves are changing, especially when it feels like I’m the only person on the road. I’m the type of person who loves to drive just because I get to listen to good music on the way. If traffic is bad, that just means I get to listen to more music!! Anyways, here below I’ll list some of my favorite artists and albums that remind me of the fall that I’ve been listening to this year:

The 1975: The 1975 and A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships

Anything that The 1975 puts out, I absolutely love. When I first discovered them, they were all that I could listen to for weeks on end! I could never get bored listened to this band, especially since they have so much music out already. Although I do listen to all of their albums year round, I love their first and latest album for this time of year because it brings me back to never changing The 1975 out of my car.

Mumford and Sons: BabelSigh No More, and Delta

Mumford and Sons is another band that I can’t get enough of. I know mostly everyone loves them, but I LOVE them. Their music and lyrics get me every single time. It’s on my bucket list to see them in concert and I hope that one day I’m able to. Babel was the first album of theirs I ever listened to, and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. And when Delta came out last November, I immediately fell in love on the first listen. “Woman,” “Beloved,” and “Delta” are some of my absolute favorite songs on that album!

Lorde: Pure Heroine

This album takes me back to fall 2013 when I first heard a song from then 16-year-old artist Lorde. Her sound was so different from anyone that I had heard! It was dark and that bass was everything. Every fall I have to listen to this album and be reminded of never being able find this album anywhere in stores because she wasn’t well known yet. It’s kind of crazy to think about that now, isn’t it?

The Oh Hellos: Through the Deep, Dark Valley

This album reminds me of the fall time because of how chill and relaxed it is. It’s great for when you’re doing homework or writing. In fact, it is what I’m listening to now writing this post! The Oh Hellos are a great band that I feel should be way more popular than what they actually are! They create such amazing music that’s so underrated.

Florence + the Machine: How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and High as Hope

Florence Welch is one of my favorite artists ever. She is so unbelievably gifted with her voice and her lyrics. My brother surprised me with tickets last October to see her in concert on her High as Hope tour, and it was incredible (the picture I used for this post was actually from this concert). Her voice is even better in person, which I didn’t even no was possible! That concert is definitely in my top 3 best concerts I’ve ever been to. To me, Florence + the Machine has always reminded me of the fall, from going to see her in concert, to listening to her How Big, How Blue album on my drive back to college with my brother back in the day.

Vinyl’s

One of my favorite presents I’ve ever gotten is my record player from my brother. If I’m not in the mood for listening to Spotify at home, I’ll put on a record. Here below are my top favorites that I find perfect for this time of year:

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros: Up from Below

This album sounds amazing on vinyl. I love this band, and this is definitely my favorite album of theirs that I listen to constantly! Of course it has their most popular song “Home,” but it also has some great songs like “Jade” and “40 Day Dream.” I don’t think there is a song on this album that I don’t like.

Bread: The Best of Bread

Bread always reminds me of my Mom and listening to this album with her. If you’re in the need of some old school, chill, laid back, love songs, I highly recommend giving Bread a listen. I was so happy when I found this vinyl used and in great condition!

Fleetwood Mac: Rumours

I don’t know why, but around the time of my birthday I was in a full blown Fleetwood Mac phase. “The Chain” was constantly in my head, and I would blare Stevie Nick’s “Edge of Seventeen” around the house. Because of this, my Mom surprised me and got me this record for my birthday! When I’m listening to it, I can understand why this got a Grammy for album of the year back in the ‘70s, it’s awesome.

Well, well, well. We’ve finally reached the end on another ridiculously long post. If this doesn’t show how seriously I take my music, I don’t know what does. I could go on and on all day about the music I listen to! It seriously changes every single day depending on what mood I’m in, so it’s nice having a lot of different options. Thank you guys for stopping by, and I’d love to know what you guys are listening to these days, but please tell me it’s not already Christmas music!!!!
