As you all may very well know, Disney+ launched last Tuesday, the 12th. There were so many people on the streaming service that random Tuesday morning that the site crashed and people couldn’t watch anything. I was planning on heading over to my brother’s to watch The Mandalorian, and I was nervous we weren’t going to be able to. But low and behold, by the time I got there it was finally up and running!
To be honest, I wasn’t counting down the days for this launch, but when we were scrolling through all the movies and shows that day, I got really excited. Being able to reminisce and watch those old Disney Channel original movies is awesome. These are movies we grew up with and haven’t seen on TV in years!!!
So, a couple of days ago I went through and added all the movies and shows to my watchlist, and that list kept steadily growing and growing. By the time I got around to actually picking what I wanted to watch, I was so indecisive on where to begin! It got to be a little overwhelming because I wanted to watch them all right then and there. Today, I thought I’d share my starting list of what I finally decided on!
I wanted to start with the shows and movies that I haven’t seen in the longest. Sure there’s the classic Camp Rock, Lemonade Mouth and High School Musical, but I’ve seen those at least once in the past couple of years. I wanted the OG, early 00’s movies and shows that didn’t come back on for a LONG time, so here’s what I went with 🙂
THROWBACK SHOWS
Lizzie McGuire (2001-2004)
Growing up, I was OBSESSED with Hilary Duff. Every time I think of her, it just takes me back to being a little kid and thinking she was the coolest person in the entire world. I watched basically everything she was in! Material Girls, Agent Cody Banks, A Cinderella Story, Raise Your Voice, I think you get the picture. Although I do actually own The Lizzie McGuire Movie on DVD, I really missed the show. I was even watching YouTube videos where there were full episodes on there, months before the Disney+ announcement came out (is that legal? I don’t know, but they were on there hahaha). So when choosing which show to actually start, I had to go with my girl Lizzie. I think once I finish, I’ll go straight into Even Stevens because that is one show I haven’t seen in FOREVER.
THROWBACK MOVIES
Double Teamed (2002)
As a fellow tall girl standing at 5’11 that played basketball all throughout elementary school and high school, you can imagine why I loved this movie growing up. If you didn’t know, this movie is a true story about twin sisters over 6 feet tall who played basketball in high school. In real life they even went to go play in the WNBA shortly after it was founded. I watched this last weekend, and I’m happy to report that the actresses playing these roles actually knew how to shoot the ball and play basketball.
Motocrossed (2001)
This has to be one of my top Disney Channel movies growing up, it really spoke to my tomboyness (not a word, but I’m making it one). I wasn’t a girly girl growing up because I had two older brothers to pick on me and toughen me up, and this movie was about keeping up and holding your own with the boys, which I found quite relatable.
Right on Track (2003)
I never realized how many awesome female characters Disney Channel had back then until now! This is another true story following two teenage girls competing in the male dominated Jr. Dragster Racing. It’s so weird to think that the little sister was Brie Larson!
Johnny Tsunami (1999)
Ever since I saw this movie growing up, I have always wanted to go snowboarding. From watching this movie, I got the notion that skiers are rich snobs, while snowboarders are the cool, laid back, kind of people people, which I know now is totally not true. If you are a skier, please don’t think I think you are a rich snob! You’re a lovely person!
Brink! (1998)
Never did I think rollerblading was as cool of an activity as when watching this movie. It’s weird to think that this movie came out in the late ‘90s! I can’t wait to watch and see all the fashion from this era. This movie and Johnny Tsunami were always one of the movies my two older brothers and I would watch whenever it came on TV.
DISNEY+ ORIGINALS
The Mandalorian (2019)
I am an avid Star Wars watcher. Anything they come out with, I will watch, and when I saw the trailer for this show, I knew I’d like it. This show is so good and the main character is so cool. Also SPOILER, I can’t get over how stinking cute “Baby Yoda” is.
Noelle (2019)
I’m the type of person that does not like watching Christmas movies or getting in the Christmas spirit before Thanksgiving. I feel like you’re just cheating on Thanksgiving!! Even though I try to refrain from it, Christmas is everywhere. As soon as Halloween is over, the Christmas décor immediately goes up everywhere you go. Although I don’t want to get in the Christmas spirit just quite yet, I’ve been tempted, I’m not gonna lie. Ever since I saw the trailer for Noelle, I have been talking myself out of watching this movie because it goes against what I just said: It’s not Christmas season yet for me! I’m going to try and refrain from it, but as soon as the clock strikes November 29th, I’m watching this movie. It has one of my favorite characters Karim from The OA on it (aka Kingsley Ben-Adir), so I gotta support!
And that wraps up my list of things I’ll be watching on Disney+ for now! There’s still so much that I can’t wait to watch, but I figured this would be a good starting point. What are you guys eager to watch on the new streaming service? I’d love to hear in the comments below!! Happy streaming!
