So last year, I was introduced to the EverlyWell Food Sensitivity Test. In this test, you get a kit in the mail to take some blood samples and send it back to the EverlyWell labs where they will test your reactions to 96 different food groups, such as milk, gluten, fruits, and nuts. If you wanted, there’s an option to test even more food groups, 200 I believe, but I ended up just going for the one that tests 96. I did a whole post about what my results were, and the gist of it was that I had high food sensitivities to almonds and eggs, and moderate reactions to gluten and dairy. It’s crazy to think that this was already over a year ago that I did the test, and I thought it’d be interesting to do a little update and what my thoughts are on it a year later.
Within the last year, I’ve definitely been more conscious about how my body reacts to certain foods. I’ve learned how if I eat gluten and dairy, my stomach feels like a balloon and my digestion sucks. I feel so constipated and it seems like it takes a whole day before my stomach goes back to normal. So with that being said, I’ve been trying to limit my gluten and dairy intake. Of course there are occasions that I just can’t resist a meal with gluten or dairy, because, basically everything has gluten and dairy, like bread or ice cream, but I definitely pay for it later.
It’s all about moderation I guess! I’d say I’ve probably have cut gluten and dairy, maybe 75% out of my diet? I haven’t been perfect about completely eliminating it, but it is what it is. Going on the gluten and dairy train, I will say that greatly reducing it has helped my congestion immensely. Ever since I had gone to college, every year the weather would start changing in April, or a few weeks after my birthday in September, I would get very congested and sick. It was the worst and I’d use my natural remedies to relieve it, but every year I knew the congestion would come eventually. It’s only been a year, but I haven’t experienced that sickness again, and it’s been awesome. I always knew that when you were congested people said you were supposed to stay away from dairy products because it makes the mucus and congestion worse, so it kind of makes sense that if I eliminated it completely, maybe the congestion wouldn’t build up in the first place.
While my main focus has been my gluten and dairy intake, from my results it said that my highest reactions were to eggs and almonds. I can’t even remember the last time that I had those two foods. I’m just so nervous to eat them because my reactions were so high! I’ve stayed away from them completely, and I’m really interested to see how my body would respond if I did try a boiled egg or some chocolate covered almonds, which were my favorite. Of course there are eggs in baked goods so I haven’t stayed away from those completely, but I feel like it’s different when it’s included in a recipe! I just haven’t eaten a whole egg in a long time, which means I haven’t had one of my favorite things, deviled eggs, in a long time. But yea, I’m so nervous to try them again because they were such a high reaction on my list. I wonder if the type of eggs matters, like cage free organic or just a regular egg. I know I want to try it out, but I’ve been so hesitant!
And I think that’s all I’ve got to say for my update right now! It’s been a process, and I’m still continuously learning about the foods that make me feel good or bad, but I do feel like I’m moving in the right direction. Bodies are crazy, and what is bad for me could be perfectly fine for someone else, everyone is different! Thanks for stopping by today, hope you all have a great weekend!
