My Nighttime Skincare Routine

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

If you’ve read my skin journey post, then you’ll know that it wasn’t until this year that I actually started to consistently wash and clean my face. Although there are some nights where I’m too lazy and just take off my makeup, I still try to cleanse my face the very next day to ensure I got all my makeup off. I feel like there has been such a difference in my skin these past few months. I love the fresh feeling once you’ve completed your skincare routine, and I notice almost immediately how tight and rough my face feels when I don’t do it.

Today I thought I would share with you the products I use on an ideal night where I take the time to take care of my face. I’d have to say that my skin is a little combination of dry and oily, leaning more towards the oily side, so please keep that in mind if you’re considering these products!

Step One: Remove Your Makeup!

I feel like everywhere you turn people are telling you to take off your makeup before you go to bed because it’s so terrible for your skin. I understand that people can struggle with this, but this one has never been a problem for me. Even if I don’t do my complete routine, I try to take off as much makeup as I can. I’m weird in that when I take a naps still wearing makeup, I lay my head down on a dark blanket or something besides my pillowcase because I’m so afraid that my makeup will transfer on my pillow case or sheets. Does anyone else feel this way?? I don’t know, it just freaks me out for some reason haha.

My favorite way of taking off my makeup is with this reusable towel. I always hated having to buy cotton wipes because I felt like they were bad for the environment and I’m so grateful for this alternative! My Mom put them in my sister-in-law’s and my stocking last Christmas and I can’t go a day without taking my makeup off without it. The one I’m using is the “FreshFace Makeup Remover Cloth” by Campanelli and it’s so soft!!! You can just put it under water and it will do the trick of taking your makeup off, or you can do what I do and use this micellar water from Garnier that pairs well. I use it to take off my eye makeup too and if the micellar water gets in my eye, it has never bothered me! Once you’ve used the entire cloth, you can just throw it in the laundry with all your regular towels and it’s good as new!

Step 2: Cleanse Thy Skin

Even though the Garnier SkinActive does a great job at removing most of my makeup, it’s still crazy when I can go in with a cleanser and take off even more makeup that was still on my face. I use this “Facial Cleansing Gel and Eye Makeup Remover” from Purity and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I can’t say I see a huge difference with using it, but I do feel like it leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh and not irritated. I kind of got this one on a whim because it looked like it would last me longer than their other cleanser I was looking at and it sure has. Like I said previously, I have combination skin that leans more to the oily side and this product doesn’t break me out.

Instead of just rubbing this on the skin using just my hands and water, I like to go in with my Vanity Planet Ultimate Skin Spa Facial Cleansing Brush (such a long name) with the sensitive brush to go deep and clean my skin. This brush is currently $35 on Amazon and it’s a much cheaper alternative to the Clarisonic. I don’t know about you, but spending over $150 is just something I can’t see myself splurging on right now. I’ve had no problems with the Vanity Planet and I’ve had it for a little over a year!

Step 3: Tone Up

After my skin is dry after cleansing, I go in with this TULA Probiotic Skin Care Pro-Glycolic 10% pH Resurfacing Gel Toner (an even longer name I know). I have currently been using this toner from TULA for almost a year now and I really do enjoy it! Most toners have alcohol in it and they just left my skin feeling like it’s burning, but this toner doesn’t do that because it doesn’t contain alcohol. The directions say to use a cotton round to apply it to your face, but like I said with the cotton wipes, I don’t use them because they seem wasteful. So instead, I just apply the toner with my fingers and pat it into the skin. This toner leaves my skin feeling so smooth with no burning sensation!

Step 4: Moisturize Moisturize Moisturize

Once I’m done with the toner, the last step is to moisturize the skin! I’ve been trying to switch over to more natural products recently, and I’ve been using the Simple Replenishing Moisturizer for over a year now and it doesn’t irritate my skin. I don’t use it during the day because it is a little too thick for me, so I like to wear it at night. What I’ve been loving to do recently is add a couple drops of the Julep Boost Your Radiance Reparative Rosehip Seed Face Oil with my moisturizer. I saw great reviews for it on Ulta’s website and was so excited when I got it half off during one of their sales. It’s a tiny bottle that holds 1 ounce, but I haven’t even used half of it yet. It’s supposed to help repair your skin which is what I need with my acne scars. I really do think it has decreased my redness and scarring, but I still have a long way to go before being scar free.

The last moisturizing product I use is the Acure Replenishing Eye Cream. I can’t say I see a huge difference with this. I was just looking in the Target natural section and instead of doing my usual research on a product, I bought this one on a whim since it seemed promising and I felt like I needed a moisturizer that was specifically for the under-eye area.

And that is my four step nighttime skincare routine!! This routine probably takes me at most 10 minutes depending on how long I cleanse my skin for (it’s so relaxing). Although I do like most of these products, I’m excited to use up the cleanser because I love trying new things and researching top rated skincare products, and I’d love to make the switch to a more natural cleanser.

Thank you lovely people for coming and reading this blog post. I would love it if you’d leave a comment what skin products you’ve been loving for your skin recently. Also, if you have bad acne scars, have you tried any products that actually work and help diminish them? I would love to know and get your help. I hope you guys have a great day wherever you are <3
