I love makeup. Ever since the summer of 2015, I’ve loved getting ready and creating different looks with my makeup everyday. There’s just something fun and calming about blaring some music and applying makeup, not having any direction to where your look could go. Sure there are those days when you’re trying to get ready and out the door in 15-minutes, but overall, putting on makeup is a fun process for me because you’re creating a look that enhances your beauty and makes you feel good. It’s just another creative outlet that doesn’t have to stay the same all the time! I never thought I’d be that girl that would spend 30-minutes to an hour putting on makeup, but here I am, spending 30-minutes to an hour putting on makeup.
Anyways, today I thought I’d post about my new favorite eye shadow palette that I got a couple of weeks ago! To preface, I’m not the type of person who splurges on makeup all the time. I wait until I’ve used up all of a product (which can take a couple of months) until I have to go to the store. I like to buy products that I thoroughly research to make sure they have good reviews, and once I buy them, I’m not buying anything else. I do admit I have a lot of lipstick shades, but it would just stress me out having different bronzers, foundations, blushes, etc. to use up before it goes expired! Is anyone else like this or am I just crazy?!
So, I have one of everything and once I’ve used a product up, I’ll either repurchase or try something new. One of my favorite past times is watching makeup reviews on YouTube, especially reviews by Tati Westbrook. Her love of makeup is evident, and her want to make sure the buyer is making smart consumer decisions I’ve always appreciated. You can just tell she wants to help the consumer on whether they should spend money on something. She is one “beauty guru” whose opinion I really trust, so if she says a product is good, I always believe her.
So last month, Tati announced that she was launching her own brand, Tati Beauty, and coming out with a new eye shadow palette, Textured Neutrals Vol 1. I thought the palette was stunning in her release video, and I knew it was going to be a high quality palette. There’s no way she would come out with a lackluster palette when she’s reviewed so many makeup products! Although I knew the palette was going to be amazing, I told myself that I wasn’t going to buy the palette when it launched. I told myself that I already had a makeup palette that I use everyday and I didn’t need a new one. And that was that, I wasn’t getting this palette.
Fast forward to a week later. It’s launch day for Tati and I go on her twitter account and see that she’s saying there was 100,000 palettes in stock and she has already sold around 70,000. I don’t know what came over me, I guess I got a case of FOMO or something, but next thing I know I’m adding this new palette into my cart that I already said that I didn’t need. I’ve never been one to purchase something as soon as it comes out, but here I was, doing just that. I was trying to justify it to myself as I was going through checkout, and I think I’d convinced myself. Here were the reasons going through my head:
- My makeup palette that I currently have is way over a year old, maybe even expired, so I should get a new one.
- It’s a neutral palette, so I know I will use it every single day and get a lot of use out of it.
- I don’t have to pay for it all at once, I could use the Afterpay service and have it all paid for by December.
- This is going to be a great, high quality palette because it’s created by Tati, and you love Tati and want to support her!!!
I was literally telling myself this over and over again as I was checking out, and then I clicked the “Place Your Order” button. It was a done deal. I couldn’t believe that I allowed myself to do this, but I was SO excited. I already knew that I would love this palette before it even got here.
As I was waiting, I was watching reviews on YouTube and couldn’t wait for it to come. I think it was because I waited to order when it was nearly sold out, but my palette took 13 days to get here, which I’m not complaining about because I did wait later in the day to order it. I kept constantly tracking my order and then the day came when it was finally here! You must think I’m so weird for getting so excited over one makeup palette, but I was really really pumped. Like I said, I don’t really splurge on something like this that often. As soon as I opened the palette, I was in love. It is gorgeous on screen, but even more so in person. I immediately just started swatching the colors on my arms (I should’ve taken pics but forgot). I was so shocked at how durable this palette felt. It was heavy, but not too heavy and the mirror was such great quality. And it’s also small enough to easily travel with, which I love.
I had a wedding to go to the week I got it, and I couldn’t wait to put it to use for the first time. There’s so many different looks you can achieve with just this palette alone, and the shadows are so easily blendable. There’s four different finishes of the six different colors: matte, sequin, metallic, and glitter. Although I don’t think I’ll reach for the glitters on the top row all of the time, they are really pretty.
This is a great everyday palette that I love and haven’t stopped using ever since that wedding. Palettes that have vibrant colors are really pretty, but they aren’t practical and something that you reach for to use every single day, as opposed to this palette. This palette does retail for $48, but like I said in my reasoning for this purchase, you can have 4 payments on Afterpay, mine currently being almost $14 payments every two weeks.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I really love this palette. I definitely think it’s worth getting if you just need one palette to use in your collection. I’m so happy I got this palette even though I didn’t originally plan to get it right at launch. No regrets here! I think everybody would love this palette and it would make a great Christmas present to the makeup beginner or the makeup lover!
