~Flashback to middle school and high school me in the years 2010 thru 2015~
A young 5’11 girl goes shopping for jeans with her lovely mother. She finds cute, mid-rise jeans and goes to try them on. The length is short, but the fit around the waist fits perfectly. She sizes up. The fit around the waist is very lose but the length is closer to what she wants. If she gets the smaller size, that means she’ll have to wear boots with the jeans every time because the jeans are too short. If she gets the longer yet bigger size, that means she has to wear a belt and have it look baggy in the waist region. Both are not ideal and not cute. “Why can’t there be long enough jeans in stores? Why do I have to compromise and not find the perfect pair that fits my waist and my long legs?” she thinks.
~Fast Forward to Fall of 2015, Freshmen Year of College~
Life has changed. She has finally figured out where to shop for jeans after all these years. However, it is not in store. It has to be online! High-wasted jeans are discovered. Tall sections are discovered. Life will never be the same. No more having to wear boots so people don’t know how short the jeans actually are (although it has become more of a style to wear capris that stop right above the ankle). Perfect length, perfect fit. High-wasted everything is a tall girl’s best friend.
~Fast Forward to Now~
If anyone can relate to the descriptions above, I love you. You know the struggle of shopping as a tall gal. And guess what? This shopping struggle doesn’t stop at jeans. It basically is every single clothing item you purchase. Maxi dresses? Not long enough. Workout leggings? Not long enough. Shorts? Too short. Dresses? Way too short, making it hard to be Dad and older brother approved (if any of you have older brother’s, you know every dress is “too short”). But back to jeans. Jeans are hard to come by. They are what I wear all the time, so finding jeans that are not too ridiculously expensive is a must! Today, I’d like to share my inexpensive jean collection that I’ve gotten from only just two places!
Target
Two summers ago, when visiting my cousin in Nashville, we stopped at the clearance section and I struck gold. I found a basic pair of light blue jeans that were high-wasted and had the tall length and were actually my size! Usually stores don’t carry tall sections, but this one had a few tall items, which for me? Never happens. The jeans were on sale for like $10. A total win. During the hot months I would totally recommend checking out your local Target’s clearance section because you might strike gold like what I did. During that quick trip I also got another pair of tall blue jeans for $20, which isn’t terrible. But for a tall girl to find two pairs of jeans that actually fit? In one day? You could say I was a little happy going home.
My other pair of basic black jeans I needed for school presentations during my senior year of college, and I randomly strolled into Target one weekend when I was home. It should be noted that Targets were no where near my school, so every time I went home, a Target trip was a must. So I go in, and I find a tall pair of black jeans, on sale for $15. Yes!!! I currently have 3 pairs of jeans from Target, as shown above, and I’m really happy with them and how long they’ve lasted.
Old Navy
Old Navy was the first online store that I came to love for offering tall sizes. Although they’ve never had tall jeans in store, I’ve had great success finding jeans on their website. I think the most spent on a pair I got were around $20, on sale. They offer numerous styles, and I’d highly recommend going to check them out. It stinks not being able to try on the jeans in person, but all the jeans I’ve gotten from there have fit great and lasted a long time. I currently have 2 pairs of these jeans, and I’m happy to say that they’ve upheld ever since my freshmen year of college. I am curious to try the workout leggings and other things from their tall collection, but so far their jeans have been a great inexpensive option.
And that wraps up all of my jeans! I only have 5 pairs, but they are all different in style so it’s easy to change it up all the time. Like I said, these prices aren’t terrible for jeans, and they actually are made for tall people like myself, which is a plus. Once I discovered that there are brands out there that specifically make products for me, all of those jeans that just didn’t fit right growing up were thrown out the door.
I’m really curious to try more expensive brands like Madewell since they offer a tall section, so that may be a post coming in the future! It’s just nice to know that we don’t have to compromise with jeans anymore, and there’s actually brands out there that are making clothes suited for us tall gals. Now if all these brands could actually have the same sizes and you don’t have to say I’m a size this in that brand and a size that in that brand, that’d be great!!! Remember the whole ASOS tall jeans fiasco? Yea, good times.
But anyways, thanks for stopping by today! I hope this post helps you out in your tall shopping endeavors!!
