If you’ve been on the blog for a while, you’ll know that matcha tea powder has become one of my favorite things this year! I’ve done posts about trying different matcha recipes, and I did a post about the iced matcha latte that was my go-to summertime drink. I love matcha, and it has great health benefits with it being an antioxidant and even can protect our cells from free radical damage! Whether it’s with a protein shake or a latte, I try to get my matcha fill throughout the week.
With the weather being little colder, I tested out making a hot matcha latte, and it ended up being really delicious! It isn’t that much different than the iced recipe, but my sizing is different. I could drink a liter of the iced matcha, but for the hot latte, I like to make it a little smaller!
Ingredients
- Ripple Unsweetened Plant Milk
- Tropeaka Matcha Tea Powder
- Honey
- Water
I mentioned in my food essentials that I loved my matcha powder and needed to get more, but it was much more of a search than what I intended. I went with Tropeaka last time, but because it’s an Australian company it took forever to get here, and I didn’t want to wait that long. I was going to get the Vital Proteins matcha, but it was made with coconut milk, which I’m not a huge fan of, and I didn’t want to spend $30 on a product when I didn’t like all the ingredients. And then, who knew that an ounce or two of matcha would be around $15 to $20? For reference, the Tropeaka bag I got was around 7 ounces for $24. So yea, good quality, not ridiculously expensive matcha was hard to find.
Another difficult thing was looking at the ingredient list and seeing that matcha tea wasn’t even the first ingredient! So, I ended up just going back and buying the biggest size of the Tropeaka, which was 15 ounces for $44. It was definitely a splurge, but I knew it would last me a long time. The best part was having it come within a week of purchasing it! Now that I’ve given you a complete rundown of what matcha I use, let’s actually get into the quick steps I use for the latte.
Directions
- Put about ¼ of water into a microwave safe mug of choice.
- Put 1 cup of milk of choosing into the mug, and put it in the microwave for about 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on how hot you want it.
- Put a teaspoon of matcha tea powder into the mug, then stir. I like to use a handheld mixer to try and get all the clumps out!
- Add honey, stir, and your done! I eyeball it, but I think I use about less than half a tablespoon of honey. I want it sweet, but not too sweet!!
And that’s all I do for a delicious hot matcha latte! It’s perfect for those chilly afternoons if you don’t want to make another cup of coffee and need a little boost. I’m obsessed with this recipe and plan on making a lot more throughout the cold season! Thanks for stopping by for this quick and easy recipe post, hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
