My Current Morning Routine

My Current Morning Routine

I wish I could go on writing this post about how I have the perfect morning routine down, waking up at 7:30 or sooner, and getting a lot done for the day. But that is far from the case. I’ve been getting up late these past few weeks around 10 AM, and I hate that I do that, but I literally don’t have any self control in the morning. I wake up to my alarm at 8, and because I don’t have anything that needs immediate attention to wake up for, I go back to sleep, and then I wake up naturally at 10 AM. I still go onto have productive days, but the morning isn’t where I get a majority of that done. I am still trying to wake up earlier, and I’ve actually woken up at 9 AM these past couple of days, but I still got a lot of work to do. I guess I thought I would share this because this is what’s really going on. And if you are making yourself feel bad about things like this too, know that you are not alone! This is where I’m at, and it’s not where I want to be, but I’m not going to beat myself up about not immediately being able to take wake up 2 hours earlier than what I normally do. It’s a process that takes time. If it took this long to build this habit of waking up at 10 AM, it’s probably going to take that long to build a new habit of waking up earlier.

So now that I’ve come clean about what time I’ve been waking up, I thought I’d share what I do in the morning to have a productive day. My new favorite thing since this quarantine started is to grab my morning cup of coffee and crawl back into bed. I just find it to be really relaxing to sit up in bed and have my computer next to me, mostly watching YouTube or browsing around online. I do this until all my coffee is gone, and then I immediately go for my liter of water. I’ve found this really helps get my digestion going in the morning. My goal is to have my coffee and 1 liter of water within the hour of waking up. Sometimes it takes longer, but sometimes not.

You may be asking what I have for breakfast, and would you believe me if I already told you? My go-to breakfast for the past 10 years has been coffee. I know there’s some people that say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I’ve never gotten into eating breakfast. I love breakfast food don’t get me wrong, but I can’t eat first thing when I wake up in the morning. There’s been a few occasions when I wake up hungry, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve always woken up and the thought of eating something has been the last thing that I’ve wanted to do. Food doesn’t sound good at all to me in the morning, which is weird because I love food! I guess you could say I’ve kind of done intermittent fasting without realizing it. I may have a light snack or something within the next few hours of waking up, but there’s no way I can eat anything first thing.

So after I’ve had my coffee and water, I have actually gotten into the habit of making my bed. I could’ve cared less about making my bed or not pre-quarantine, but nowadays it has become a habit that I have to do every morning. I then go to my desk and start somewhat planning out my day. It’s during this time that I go to my fitness journal and write out what I want to do that day. I find this is the best time to do it because I can really listen to my body and figure out what it’s craving movement wise for the day. It’s also here that I have a game plan, writing out the things that I want to accomplish for the day, or in this case looking at my list that I made last week and ticking off some things from that list that I didn’t have time to do yet.

After checking my list, there’s days like today, when I’m writing this post, that I start working on my blog posts for the week, and other days I go straight into other things I have on my list, like cleaning and organizing anything and everything. My goal time for working out is somewhere between 11 AM to 12 PM, but there are some days that I workout at 12:30. It’s a super flexible and nonchalant kind of thing where everyday is a little different, but not too much.

And that wraps up my current morning routine! It’s definitely not perfect and not as productive as I want it to be, but I definitely get the bulk of my work that I want and need to do in the afternoon. It’s been nice having a chill, slow start to each day though, and just taking it easy. It’s against my perfectionistic nature to not share a perfect morning routine where I immediately wake up and have my workout done before 10 AM, but this is just the way it is now and I can’t change it immediately! I’m doing the best that I can, and I have to be ok with that and not beat myself up about it. Thanks for stopping by today, hope you have a great weekend!
