Happy new year everyone! I could start off this blog with a 2020 vision joke, but I think we’ve all seen way too many of those recently! I love a good list of resolutions for the year. It’s not so much that I have to accomplish all that is on my list, but I just like to begin the year by reflecting on what I’d like to work and grow on during the new year. And the thing about goals is that you don’t have to wait until a new year comes around to set them. You can start your goals whenever you want! Setting them at the beginning of the year is just more aesthetically pleasing. So, with that being said, here are my 6 goals/resolutions for 2020:
#1 Reading 17 Books
As you may well know, I’ve spent some time reading these past couple of months. I had a goal of reading 15 books last year, and in last June I had only read about 6. I thought for sure that I wouldn’t be able to reach my goal, but then one day I just decided that I was going to. I created my reading list for the rest of 2019, and I stuck to it and read 9 books within those last 6 months of the year. During that time, I really fell in love with reading, and I couldn’t put a book down. So this year, I thought why not up the book count again? 17 may not be too much of a jump, but I knew if I went too big then it wouldn’t be very attainable. I’ve gotten a lot of books here recently, and I’m so excited to start reading all of them!
#2 Waking Up Earlier
I’m not going to lie, this has been a goal of mine for years and years. I just can’t seem to get out of my bed in the morning. It’s been a struggle. I always kick myself when I have to rush to get ready instead of just having a chill, easy flowing morning. I love getting up early and leisurely having a cup of coffee. It just feels like you are the only one up in the world, and it’s just really calming. But for some reason I consistently can’t get myself to do that. So I’m throwing this one out here! Maybe it will happen, maybe it won’t…we’ll see!!
#3 Shopping More Sustainably
A couple of months ago I did a blog post on my favorite t-shirt company called Dazey LA. They are a brand that makes the softest t-shirts that are ethically and sustainably made. Plus, they’re the softest shirts I’ve ever had. Discovering that brand really opened my eyes as a consumer and it made me want to make smarter purchases and buy more quality made clothes. I realized that it’s worth investing in items that will last you a long time, as opposed to items that are cheaply made and won’t even last you a year before they start falling apart. I really love fashion, but my goal for this year is to really invest in the pieces that I get and not splurge in the moment and have buyer’s remorse later.
#4 Training Smarter, Not Harder
Back when I first started my blog, I talked about how I’m putting all this work into my body and working out 5 times a week, but I just wasn’t seeing any changes. I realized that I was trying to do too much, and I think my body didn’t like that very much. I shouldn’t be trying to go full out every session, and adding more workouts and more reps. Some days I have to take it a little easier and actually let my body recover. So I changed up my routine, and while I like it a lot, I’m really interested in trying new things this year. I love Natacha Océane over on YouTube and Instagram. She’s ultimate body goals and she inspires me to keep working on myself and getting stronger. She’s come out with a couple of training guides and I’d love to buy one and test it out sometime this year to switch up my routine!
#5 Checking Instagram Twice a Day
I don’t know about you, but on some days, I’m scrolling on Instagram, going on the explore page looking at videos, and I look at the clock an almost an hour has passed since I first opened the app. It isn’t the most productive thing in the world, and it’s been bothering me recently how much I’ve been on my phone, getting lost on the world of Instagram. It’s so easy to do, but it can be such a waste of time! I love Instagram and enjoy seeing what everyone’s up to, but I really think I’ve been checking it way too often recently. I’ve tried a couple of times in the past to only check it twice a day, and I really enjoyed those days! But then there’s days when there’s not that much going on so you think you’ll just hop on Instagram to pass some time. So this year, I’m putting it out there that I’m going to check Instagram twice a day, whether it’s a busy day or not. I’ll check it in the afternoon and then that night. I don’t want to live through my phone anymore, so I’m eager to make this change in 2020.
#6 Bringing More Awareness to My Blog
Lastly, in 2020 I really want to bring more awareness to this blog. I haven’t told many people about it because I just didn’t think it was a big deal, or that people would really care. But as I’ve been doing this consistently for the past couple of months, I realize how proud I am of the writing I’m doing on here. I love the content I’m making and getting to showcase what’s going on in life and what’s on my mind, serious or not. I guess another reason that I’m hesitant to bring awareness is because I don’t want people to think I’m trying to draw attention to myself and think I’m above anyone. I do this because I genuinely love writing! But I shouldn’t be thinking about what other people will think about me and what my intentions are. I know exactly what my intentions are, and that should be enough for me! So this year, I want to challenge myself to not be afraid of sharing what I’m spending my time doing.
And that’s all the goals I want to share for today! I have more goals and habits I want to form in 2020, but this post is already so long I didn’t want to bore! But yea, I love resolutions. The key is not being too hard on yourself. You just have to take it one day at a time and think about what you can do today to get you where you want to be tomorrow. I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year, thanks for stopping by today!
