Back during the summer, I discovered Matt D’Avella and his podcast The Ground Up Show. He has a lot of different creators on and they discuss basically their creative processes and how they got to where they are now through following their dreams. After listening to his podcast, I always felt more motivated and inspired to start working towards my dreams of starting this blog. I had always thought about doing it, then I finally put in the work to make that thought a reality. So anyways, Matt had this guest on his show Dani Dazey, and she talked about her t-shirt company, Dazey LA, that she had started and created in order to empower woman through sustainably and ethically made t-shirts. What I found really cool is that they are a make-to-order company that embraces slow fashion, which means there is no mass production and no waste of product. Your shirt might take awhile to get to you because it is made after you place your order, but at least you know that there is no waste is involved in the process!
As soon as I was done listening to that podcast episode, I went and looked around on the Dazey La website. This business spoke to me on so many different levels and I felt like I really connected with it as a consumer. I’ve always loved finding and supporting local and small businesses. There’s just something that feels unique about it. My dollar seems more powerful because I feel like I’m helping the owner and supporting their dreams, while when you go to shop at Target, you don’t really have that personable feel.
I am a quality over quantity type of gal, and these were some quality and ethically made t-shirts that I knew would last me a long time. I remember going through the website and bookmarking every t-shirt that I wanted, and I had about 6 different styles of them (and still do). I wish I could go on their site right now and buy all of the shirts that I want! And they don’t offer just t-shirts, they offer other clothing products, as well as home goods with some dope art prints that I want to decorate my future house with. So, here below are the three shirts that I currently have and what they mean to me since discovering this awesome company!
“Fall or Fly” Vintage Black Tee
When I was first scrolling on the site, this was the first shirt that really stood out to me. The message just spoke to me. It was before I launched my blog, and it inspired me to just go for it. I may fail, but this is something that is definitely worth pursuing. And hey, I may succeed from it too! The whole point is that I have to put myself out there to begin with. Either way I will grow from the experience.
The only negative that I have from this shirt is that it is a bit tight around my armpits. I’m usually a size medium in everything, but the medium here was just a little too tight. I didn’t think I had super broad shoulders, but this makes me think I do haha. I love the look of the shirt on though, but next time I think I might size up for a looser feel.
“You Are Art” White Crop Tee
This is another shirt that really stood out to me from the get-go. I love the colors and the design. It pairs perfectly with my orange pants from my ASOS tall haul and I just love the message, “You are art.” We are all different and unique in our own way. We all have different stories and experiences and no one can be you and you can’t be anyone else. I feel like this shirt is just a way to say embrace yourself and your individuality!
“Fierce Female” Mustard Crop Tee
When Dazey LA had their labor day sale, I knew I had to hop on their site and buy something before certain styles got discontinued. When I saw this shirt, I just immediately felt more empowered and confident, and that’s how I want to feel when wearing this shirt. There are times, especially lately, when I feel insecure, but this shirt reminds me that I can take whatever lies ahead.
So, let’s talk about the pricing of these shirts really quickly. The black tee is $52, while the two tank tops I have are $48. At first glance, you might think that this is a lot of money for a shirt, and it is, but it is so worth it in my opinion. Like I said in my top 5 fashion essentials post, would you rather buy numerous things with that amount of money that won’t last very long, or buy one item that will last a really long time? To me, paying $52 is worth it.
And what makes me love this company even more is that they offer an afterpay service where you can pay a certain amount every two weeks after you order with NO INTEREST! I ordered the “Fierce Female” crop and one of their art prints during their labor day weekend sale, and my total was $56. I used the afterpay service and I only had to pay $14 every TWO weeks. I still have one more payment left and it was over a month ago! If your anything like me, I get a little on edge when I have to pay $20 or more for something. But when you space out the payments, it doesn’t feel like that much. So the fact that I’m getting a top quality product and I feel like I’m not breaking the bank with the easy payments makes me a happy customer!
And those are all the shirts that I currently have! I hope to grow this shirt collection in the future with other pieces that I’ve been eying, but I’m super happy with what I have now. The fabric of these shirts are the softest I have ever felt. This brand is everything I want in a company from being sustainable to delivering a great message. It really inspires me to start purchasing more sustainable fashion, as well as live a more sustainable life in general. I highly recommend checking out this brand!
And that finally concludes this post! Thank you for stopping by and reading, I hope you have a great one! <3
