I don’t know about you guys, but I love clothes and fashion. I love picking outfits that are a reflection of who I am and what my mood is. As much as I want to be a minimalist and only have essential clothes to wear everyday, that’s just not realistic for the fashion lover that I am.
I had this idea a few years ago of getting rid of one item of clothing for every new item I buy, and I was really good at it for about a year, but then I fell off it. Before finishing up with college, I Marie Kondo’d my closet and put all my clothes on my bed to figure out which piece gave me joy or not, and got rid of a fair amount of clothes I didn’t like anymore. Even though I have gone through all the items in my closet within this past year, I thought it would be fun (and time consuming) to try on every item of clothing that is hanging up in my closet. I figured there may be items that still give me joy, but there may be items that just don’t fit and are taking up too much room in my closet. I feel like my closet has been steadily growing recently and there are items that I have that I haven’t worn in years, and now would be the perfect opportunity to purge what I don’t want anymore.
At this part of the post I have yet to delve into this challenge that I’ve created for myself, and on this side of it, it seems like a really good idea! I’ll let you know later in the post how I’m feeling once I’ve started it…
—–A FEW DAYS LATER—–
115 items later, and I’m finally done!!! I took out and tried on everything hanging up in my closet: shorts, jeans, tops, jackets, and cardigans. It was a daunting task, but I’m happy I finally finished! I had been putting this off everyday this week, but today I just hunkered down, put on one of my Spotify playlists and did it. It took a few hours and I had to break for lunch, but the task is done!
What I ended up doing was taking everything hanging in my closet and putting it on my bed, as you can see from the feature image for this post. I did it right in front of my big mirror in my room so when I tried it on I could immediately look and see if I liked the item in question or not. I even brought on my Mom as a consultant for some of the items I was on the fence about haha, thanks Mom!
I didn’t get rid of as much as what I was hoping to, but I did get rid of stuff and reorganized my closet so that was something! This definitely wasn’t a complete waste of time, and I’m glad I took the time to do it because it needed to be done since I hadn’t done a closet clean out in a while. It’s funny how in the past I was always hesitant to get rid of things, but nowadays it’s like if I don’t like something or don’t have a purpose for it, it has become so easy to say goodbye. It’s an addicting feeling, which is why I think I’m always looking for things to get rid of when cleaning or reorganizing!
It was nice to go through my closet and assess what I had because it made me excited to wear certain things when we all can go out again. Call me crazy, but this experience also made me want to go shopping. I love all the pieces that I have, don’t get me wrong, but my dress collection that I’ve had has slowly been dwindling because I end up not liking a dress anymore and the fit just looks off. I really want to do some online shopping for tall summer dresses because I’ve realized that the dresses I buy don’t really fit me right. The larges are long enough, but the fit on the upper body just looks weird, or the mediums fit great on the upper body, but the bottom is way too short for my liking…or my Mom’s liking…or my brother’s liking. I’m eager to try some dresses designed for tall girls to see if they fit my body type. I did try a couple from an ASOS haul I did last year, but I want to try more brands this time around. With summer coming up it seems like the perfect opportunity, so stick around for that! And that’s all from me today, I hope this post encourages you do go through your closet to purge and declutter! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great week!
