Figuring Out My New Routine

So…I didn’t post on Friday. I fully intended to, but last week just didn’t go according to plan! I kept putting off writing during the week, and on the final day I had to write, Thursday, I came home from work with the worst headache and couldn’t get past the pain to do it. I know, I know, excuses…I ran out of time!

My schedule has changed a lot this last month with my new 8-5 job, and it’s definitely an adjustment. Before it was easy, but nowadays, I have to make the extra effort to have the time to do the things I love, from working out to doing this blog. An 8-5 ain’t no joke, and slap on an hour commute back home and it takes time away from doing things.

Even though the amount of time I have has dwindled on week nights, I’m eager to challenge myself to make the time to still do the things I enjoy, even though relaxing on the couch on the evenings is oh so very tempting. It’s crazy to me how easily said than done that is. As I’m sitting here, on the weekend, it’s easy for me to feel motivated to workout and work on this blog when I get home from work during the upcoming week. It doesn’t sound that hard when I think about it now. But last week, it was so hard in the moment to get up off the couch and work on something else. I’ve worked all day, and I have to work out or work on whatever else needs to be done too? The short term satisfaction of lying around is much more appealing than the long term in that moment, and I’ve allowed the short term to win out.

It’s going to be a process figuring out what routine is best for me, but that’s the thing, I have to figure out how to make the time to do the things that I’m passionate about. It’s not going to magically happen. I have to work at it!! The coming weeks, I’m going to have to consistently remind myself that putting the time in after work doing those things is better for me in the long run than just staring at the TV for multiple hours a night. Of course rest is essential too, but I need to put in some sort of work here and there during the week, especially fitness wise. I find that I feel so much better at work when I do take the time to work out and do something to move my body.

The one thing that I have to remind myself of is to show myself grace, as I mentioned in my New Year’s Resolutions. I can be so hard on myself for not being perfect and not being productive enough outside of work during the week. I have to remember to just take it one step at a time, and show grace. You can’t be perfect all the time, you’re human! It’s ok to not have it all figured out perfectly right now, it takes time. The important thing to remember is that at least you are taking steps towards improving.

I wasn’t planning on making today’s post a pep talk for myself, but that is what it turned out to be! If you were in need of a pep talk too, I hope you got some sort of encouragement out of today’s post. Just don’t lose sight of your goals and let them slip away in your day to day routine. Anyways, before I start doing a full blown pep talk, I hope you have an amazing Monday, and an amazing rest of your week. Thanks for stopping by today <3
