And just like that, Christmas has come and gone. I hope you guys had a great one! To be completely honest, the day didn’t really feel like Christmas in my house. It just felt like any other day, with a few presents sprinkled in there. This Christmas was different than any other Christmas I’ve ever had. For starters, it didn’t help that I ended up getting sick right before the big day, and I still am while writing this post, which stinks! I couldn’t (and still can’t) breath out of my nose and my head felt like a balloon. Ugh.
I mentioned in my Christmas traditions that this Christmas would be different because both of my brothers wouldn’t be there. I never grew up with a huge family Christmas gathering with relatives all coming to one house to celebrate. For the most part, it was always just the five of us around the table. So with my brothers being at their spouses family’s houses, it was a little weird waking up to the “Hallelujah Chorus” all by myself. I experienced the morning basically as an only child, and I can’t tell you how strange of a feeling it was. The house felt so quiet!! I love my parents and am so thankful for the time I get to spend with them, but you can’t help but miss the rest of your family when that’s what you’ve grown up with around the holidays. The day went by great though, opening presents and then watching the Christmas movies Four Christmases, Jingle All the Way, and Elf. Oh yea, and taking some target practice with a Nerf gun that my Mom got the boys in the family. Later on in the day, I ended up taking a long nap that I apparently needed since I was sick, and woke up to the delicious feast that my Mom cooked for us. Green bean casserole, ham, corn casserole, potatoes…it was amazing. The house livened up a bit when my brother and his wife stopped by that night, and we had a great time spending the last remaining hours of the day together.
The day went by just as fast as it had come. This Christmas made me realize how much that it isn’t about the presents that make the holiday great. It’s the people that you surround yourself with that make it special and memorable. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m so grateful for my family and the time that I get to spend with them. I never want to take for granted the time that we have together. I love all these people below me that I get the pleasure of calling family!!!
Now that Christmas has passed, it’s time to think of the New Year ahead! I’m so excited for the New Year’s content ideas I have in my head to write. There’s so many ideas! I’d really like to spend the first of those posts reflecting on 2019, so get ready! I’m also really excited to be gone with this sickness ASAP. Thanks for stopping by today, hope you all have a great weekend!
