A couple of weeks ago, I posted about the books that I’ll be reading for the time being. Doing that made me realize that I’ve acquired some books these past few months that I didn’t even post about! I think I’ve said that I’ve been in a book buying rampage these past few months, but I figured now would be the perfect time to do a little book haul of all the books I’ve accumulated.
I know it’s the beginning of April, but let’s go back to Christmas for a second. I was so excited to spend my Christmas money at my favorite little bookstore in Decatur called Second Read Books. It was there that I picked up these 5 books, and I’m pretty sure the total was not even $20. I made a list late last year of all the classic books that I want to look for and read at some point, because I really feel like I haven’t read enough of them.
As you can see, I picked up books from authors like Jane Austen, Earnest Hemingway, and Charles Dickens. I picked up The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton as well because when I was researching which books I wanted to read, in the description of this book it said that Wharton was the first woman to ever win the Pulitzer Price for Fiction, which is pretty awesome. I knew this had to be in my collection because it is a part of women’s history!
Jumping to February, Valentine’s Day specifically, what do you do when you don’t have a Valentine? Well, for me, I spent it wandering around in Second and Charles, another favorite bookstore of mine. I consulted my list and ended up grabbing more Jane Austen and George Orwell’s 1984, which the nice, older gentleman behind me while checking out assured I was going to like it, which I mean, if a stranger says it, it has to be true right!?
This wasn’t a part of my book list, but once I saw the cover of War of the Worlds, I knew I had to grab this copy. This cover cracks me up every time I look at it!!! The kid Leonard really lost a gem when he decided to give this book away. I’ve never read this book before, but it always reminds me of my Dad because he was the one that told me when this book was released, a radio station was reading it on air and people didn’t realize that they were reading a book, they thought it was actually happening!! Pretty hilarious if you ask me haha.
My last little haul happened at the beginning of March last month. I had a really weird morning and was kind of thrown off and didn’t know what I was doing, just driving and wandering around aimlessly. So I ended up grabbing some coffee and then decided to go in Barnes and Noble, just trying to get my mind off some stuff that happened. I had been wanting to grab a copy of Toni Morrison’s Beloved, and I couldn’t find it at Second and Charles. To make myself feel better, I ended up talking myself into just buying it there at Barnes and Noble, even though it’s so expensive. Treat yo’self!
So I’m wandering around again, and I end up in front of a historical section where they had books like The Nightingale and other books, fiction and non-fiction. I stumbled across this book called The Woman Who Smashed Codes, a true story about a woman who was a codebreaker during the first World War and figured out enemy secrets and found Nazi spies. That was it, I was invested and I couldn’t put the book back down, and it was the last copy at that stand. So I talked myself into spending $35 on two books, but hey, I was having a weird day and it made me feel better! I had the sweetest girl check me out, and she said I was pleasant or something along those lines and it really boosted my spirits, which I desperately needed, so it was totally worth the splurge!
And those are the 11 books that I’ve acquired these past four months! If I end up finishing the books that are on my list right now, I definitely want to pick some titles from this post to delve into. Thanks for stopping by today, hope you have a great Easter weekend! <3
