Book Update + Reading List For the Rest of 2020

Book Update + Reading List For the Rest of 2020

Gosh, it’s been a while since I’ve talked about books on here! I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but honestly my reading game hasn’t been very good for the past month or so. I’d been on top of my goal of reading 17 books this year, and currently I’m on book 13, which isn’t too terrible considering we have over 3 months remaining in the year!

So, in my last reading list in June, I mentioned 4 books that I was going to read. While I did read the Cal Ripken book and Beloved by Toni Morrison, the two other books on that list, well, I haven’t received them yet. Instead of going on Amazon to buy them, I wanted to support the Black Stone Bookstore and Cultural Center in Michigan, so I ordered through them. And apparently it was me and everyone else in the country wanting to support them too because they received so many orders that it’s been hard for the warehouses to keep up with it all. While it sucks not receiving the books even though it’s been over 2 months, I’m ok with it because I know my money went to a good place.

So after I finished Beloved, I ended up reading the first book in the Longmire mystery series with my brother called Cold Dish. It was a slow start to really get into it, but by the end I really enjoyed the book and the storyline! I would definitely be interested in reading more of that series in the future.

Now that I’ve gotten that little book update out of the way, it’s time to talk about what my current reading list is! I’ve picked 5 books that I’m going to read by the end of the year, so let’s get started!

#1 The Mind Gut Connection by Emeran Mayer, MD

This is the book that I’m currently reading, and while I’m only on the first chapter, I’m intrigued! Gut health has become a popular topic these past couple of years, and I’m interested to learn more about it. It seems really fascinating how the gut and brain are connected, and could correlate with diseases, as well as food sensitivities and allergies. I’ve been more aware of my digestion and bloating this past year, and I’m interested to learn and figure out why that is and what I can do about it!

#2 Troubled Blood by Robert Galbraith

If you haven’t heard about the Cormoran Strike mystery novels, well, you should definitely check them out! I feel like not a lot of people know about these series, even though the author has written some bestsellers. Don’t let the name fool you, but Robert Galbraith is actually the pseudonym of the one, the only, JK Rowling. These books are much different than Harry Potter, but gosh, are they good! The 5thbook in the series comes out September 15th, and you better believe I already have it preordered! I can’t wait for this to come in the mail

#3 Woke Church by Eric Mason

This book was recommended to me by one of my good friends, and I’m really excited to read it because if she tells me she thinks I’m going to like something, I always end up liking it!

#4 Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

I read The Hunger Gamesfor the 2ndtime last year, and I’ve been meaning to read this one ever since I finished, but never got around to it. I think this will be a perfect fall read, and I can’t believe how long it has been since I’ve read this series.

#5 Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

I’ve mentioned on here a few times how I’ve been wanting to grow my classic book collection, and this was one that I picked up a while back. I feel like I haven’t read as many classics as I should’ve, but I think my brother and I are going to try to read it before the year ends!

And that wraps up my reading list! I’m really excited about all of these books and can’t wait to divulge in each of them. If there are any changes I’ll probably update later on, but right now it’s looking like these will be the books that will suffice for the rest of the year! Thanks for stopping by today, hope you have a great weekend!
