And just like that, my 30 day yoga journey has ended! I can’t believe that this journey is already over. It feels like yesterday that I was figuring out when I wanted to start, and the finish date would be May 1st. And now that day has come and gone. If you didn’t already know, I mentioned in my most recent workout routine that I was doing a 30 day yoga challenge. The practice was by the marvelous Adriene from Yoga with Adriene on YouTube, and I ended up doing her Home series that she did earlier this year. I’ve loved doing her practices for a long time now, but have never fully committed to doing it for 30 days! I would try to squeeze in a practice maybe once a week, but that was about it. I figured this quarantine we were in would be the perfect opportunity to do this journey, and would be something that I could look forward to doing everyday.
So, how did this past month go, you ask? Every day these past 30 days, I have shown up to the mat. And I have to say, I loved every second of it. Sure there were days where I was tired, considering I was doing my normal strength training days and forms of cardio, but overall I was super excited to do my practice everyday. It became a habit rather quickly, where I didn’t have to think twice about doing my practice, I would just go and do it. And after every practice I would just feel refreshed and rejuvenated, which was an amazing feeling to have.
I can’t even explain how this journey has affected me. I feel stronger, more flexible, and my stomach and digestion feel so much better. And I also feel taller, stretched out in a way, and more aware of my breathing. Yoga has become addicting to me. Everyday I would come to the mat and the day would just melt away. I wasn’t thinking about how slow the practice was, I was present in a way that I don’t think I’ve ever been before. It’s amazing how it slowed my mind down and I just became present to what was before me. I don’t know if that sounds weird or not, but hey, it’s true! When you are in tune with your body and breath, the time just flies by. A 20 to 30-minute practice feels like you’ve been there for only 10-minutes!
Adriene does such a great job of not making her practices feel like the same thing everyday. I did this challenge with my brother, and we were both saying how sure you have the same basic yoga poses, but she presents it in such a way that it feels different every time. I really appreciate that, and it makes me want to return to the mat more often than what I did before this journey. I loved yoga before, but I love it so much now that I really want to implement it into my everyday routine. I’d love to do it first thing in the morning, but that means I’d have to wake up earlier, and I don’t know if I can do that just yet! The fun thing about Adriene is that there are practices that range from different lengths of time depending on what you want. For this journey in particular, there were some days that were within 10 to 20-minutes, other days 30 to 40. It makes it easier to follow it through doing it everyday if it doesn’t take that long to do on some days. You can still get a great practice in and it doesn’t have to be 45-minutes long!
I’ve loved this yoga journey that I’ve been on, and I intend to do it way more than what I’ve done before. It has become one of my favorite forms of moving my body. I feel like it was great when I worked out earlier in the day and did yoga later that night because it ensured that I properly stretched after my workout even though it was hours before. And on the days that I was sore, I liked doing my practice knowing that I was going to stretch out all the kinks and sore spots of my body.
And I think that wraps up all my thoughts about my recent yoga journey! I’m so glad that I committed and finally did this. It had so many great benefits for me that I want to continue going forward with it. Thanks for stopping by today, and if you do want to check out yoga, I highly recommend the practice and going to Yoga with Adriene for all of your yoga needs <3 Namaste!
