Oh winter. Here in the South, winter can be a bit unpredictable, not only from year to year, but day to day. Last month there was a day it was in the 20’s, today it felt so good in the 60’s I could’ve gone for a run in shorts and a tank top. I remember a few Christmas seasons ago, my brothers and I even played basketball outside on Christmas Eve. Winter just takes its precious time. The south is where you very rarely get snow, but you get unpredictability. You just never know what’s going to happen outside.
It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I started actually buying coats that I could wear in the winter. When you look at price tags, they can just be really expensive and you’d rather just freeze, or maybe that was just me! It’s funny how growing up I used to hate the cold, but now, I love it, as long as I’m prepared and am able to keep warm. Although it’s perfectly acceptable to just wear sweatshirts and hoodies everywhere you go throughout winter, there’s those occasions where you want to look somewhat put together and nice! So today, I thought I’d share my three current favorite jackets that I wear to stay warm during the cold season!!
TopShop Moto Over-Sized Denim Jacket
This may look familiar from my five fashion essentials post, but I really like to wear it when it’s cold out. It may be a little too lightweight to wear by itself, but I love layering it up during the colder months. Like I said, about a month ago or so it was in the 20’s outside, and I wore this jacket with a sweatshirt underneath and a blanket scarf like the picture above, and I actually loved the way it looked! I was warm and comfortable and I could stand outside for long periods of time without completely freezing to death.
ASOS Dark Green Bomber Jacket
I’ve had this jacket for a couple of years now, and it still is essential for me during the winter. I didn’t want to get a standard black jacket, but I also didn’t want a jacket that basically said “Hey, look at me!!” The green is so dark that it almost looks like it’s a black jacket, but it’s not. The dark green gives my outfits a little something extra without looking too out there. I also love layering this jacket with sweaters and scarves, I feel like it gives off a really cool, street style look.
Gap Black Wool Blend Coat
This is a new jacket that I got on sale about a month ago, and it is so soft and comfortable!!! For a long time, I’ve wanted to get a longer jacket that I could wear with dresses and such, and when I saw this on sale, I knew I had to splurge and get it. I currently love the wool coat look paired with light blue jeans and booties, like what I’m wearing above. I read the reviews for it on Gap’s site, and while some loved it, some mentioned that the camel color showed wear quickly. So instead of getting camel, I went with the black just in case that if it does show wear, it wouldn’t be as noticeable. I also forgot to mention that this jacket actually came in a tall size online! So if you’re a tall gal like myself who needs extra length, this jacket is a great option! When I lift my arms the sleeves are actually long enough, thank goodness.
And that quickly wraps up my favorite jackets for this time of year! If you’re anything like me, looking up jackets isn’t always fun because as soon as you find something you like, you take a look at the price and have to internally groan because jackets can be really expensive, especially if you want something of good quality. That’s why I always like to shop jackets out of season, that way you can get a great jacket for a great price. I feel like that doesn’t really help now that it’s the beginning of the winter season, but keep it in mind if you’re wanting a new jacket, but don’t need a new jacket right this moment. It will eventually go on sale sooner or later! There are also other options like Afterpay, which has totally changed the way I shop this year. Being able to make four payments and pay off good quality items every two weeks is amazing, and I’m so happy more and more stores are offering it.
Also, random side note, I just realized that today marks 3 months on the dot of when I started this blog! I can’t believe I’ve been consistently doing this for that long. Time has really flown by, it seems like just yesterday I was staying up way too late getting ready with all the final touches to launch this blog. Although it’s flown by, it also feels like forever ago that I wrote that first post 22. I’m so excited about where this blog will go in the future. I’ve really enjoyed sitting down with my computer, writing and reflecting on everything around me. I’ve said it before that I don’t want to forget anything, and I want to look back and read about the things that sparked my curiosity and joy. I’m so happy I took the plunge. If you’re reading this, thank you for the very early support! I’m excited to see growth with this blog, but at the end of the day I’m just doing this because I love creating and I love writing about my experiences. I hope there is many many more to come to write about! So here’s a big THANK YOU for being here today, hope you have a great one <3
